How To Clean Carburetor 1996 Honda Magna 750

$1200 for carb rebuild and petcock on $750 96 Honda Magna. Would y'all exercise information technology?

Like the title says, I'1000 at a crossroads:

I bought a Cute (to me) 1996 Honda Magna 750 in April for $750. After dying out, the mechanic says $1200 for carb rebuild and a new petcock. This is way more I paid for the bike. Would you lot practice it or just buy a new bike?

That $1200 is the "I don't want to practice it only I don't desire to directly up tell you" price. Just take some time with youtube and go er done. It will take a twenty-four hour period the kickoff time and 2 hours everytime after that.

ding ding ding. I give 'fuck off' prices for work I don't want to practise, and V4 carbs are one of them.

Agreed with him, let my friend rebuild mine last dark. Feels similar I'm riding a brand new bike!

Neither. Rebuilding carbs is easy work. Order the kits (brand sure it has gaskets, needle valves, all the rubber stuff basically) and lookout some youtube vids. It'll cost yous <$100 and your time

level 2

Accept it irksome, and be very careful near whatsoever springs. Petty bastards like to wing/gyre away and hibernate in another dimension.

level ii

I always tear it down first and come across what it needs, I have never come up across ane that needed an entire rebuild kit.

it'due south usually simply a good cleaning, and maybe a gasket or diaphragm to get information technology running good again.

I had a 87 magna, and V4 carbs are a bitch to work with. It's non complicated just painful how they are stuck in the motor.
Start with some vids online. cheque for some back yard mechanic will do em

level 2

I've washed several of those. They are a bitch but I've seen shops f them upwards. Your main concern is keeping the fuel supply lines from leaking. O rings need checking and correct associates overall is key

level one

Practise not pay that much for such a modest job! Shop around and go as many other quotes as you tin can until you observe a reasonable price. What you have been quoted is nowhere near realistic and you lot should steer clear of that workshop from at present on.

level 1

Hell no! Had an 85 VF500, rebuilt and synced the carbs myself with most no experience and n YouTube. Whoever said watch out for the springs was not lying, those little bastards like to go flying!

level 1

nope. unless he'south providing you a ready of brand new NOS carbs and then no way is a carb cleaning worth that.

if yous can't clean a set of carbs yourself, you're much better off simply paying a piddling actress for a fuel injected bike.

level 1

rebuild carbs if you wanto to diy, otherwise sell it and and get a meliorate bike

Would yous do it?

Nope.

I'd role it out.

level 1

Don't practice it man either do it yourself or sell information technology at a loss.

level 1

Take advantage of youtube! You can do this on your ain with a little time and effort. No need to drop so much money.

when yous practice your rebuild observe a large flat spot (coffee table) and layout a white towel and so it'southward easier to detect any parts that slide or spring out, then get split up tupperware bowls to keep all parts with same carb and your proficient to get., the new petcock is just a couple of screws and no biggy.

level 1

For my FZ-one 2003 store wanted grand dollars valve cheque and adjust, 500 steering head re-lube and fork oil change, 800 sprockets and concatenation, basically the value of the bike.

Did everything myself 640 for parts and my time.

Paid 400$ for the wheel 500$ to become it checked over and fixed upwards at the shop.

level ane

If you plan on keeping the wheel, sure. I've dropped way more than I've paid in both mine. I also don't like carb piece of work. Rebuilding isn't the difficult role, it's synchronization that is the hard part, as well yous probably don't accept the tool needed.
